If you have a web site, or can create a web site, that gets even a moderate amount of traffic, you can benefit from that traffic by placing small text ads on your site. The most popular such program is by Google, called AdSense. Advertisers pay Google to place small text ads on Google’s search results pages (see right-hand side of any Google search results page). But Google also makes these same ads available to individuals and companies to to display on their own web sites — for a share of the ad revenue. The ads are chosen automatically based on the content of the web page.
How Does it Work?
Adsense ads can pay as little as a few cents per click to several dollars per click for popular keywords. Therefore, if your web site relates to those popular keywords, your share of the pay for AdSense ads on your site can be significant, depending on the number of visitors who see the ads and how often they click on them. Google doesn’t disclose exactly what percent of each ad’s revenue is paid, but a relatively few clicks every day can mean a nice check every month — maybe enough for a car payment. Yahoo now has a similar program, as do a number of other smaller companies.
Joel Comm is one of the people who got into this Google program early on and became a master at making a lot of money at it. He explains all the details in his ebook Google AdSense Secrets. He explains exactly how he became successful and what it takes to duplicate his results. He also shows you one of his typical Goggle earnings reports. This is real money by real people doing ordinary things. If you don’t like his ebook, he offers a 100% money-back satisfaction guarantee.
What to Expect
I participate in a number of online discussion forums in which I frequently see comments from people who are having great success with Adsense ads, Yahoo ads, and others. I also see comments from those who are just starting and are not having the kind of quick success they expected.
Being successful with this kind of program means having a worthwhile web site with quality content, that receives at least a moderate number of visitors per day. The topic of your site must be one for which Google has a good inventory of advertisers who are willing to pay money for ads.
Some people try to cheat by clicking on ads on their own site. Google watches this closely (it’s called “click fraud”) and permanently bans those who do it, even when it’s done accidentally. Don’t even think about it.
One way to determine if Google will have a good inventory of ads to display on your site is to simply go to Google’s web site and search for the same kinds of terms and search phrases (keywords) that you think people will use to get to your site. Then look in the right-hand column of the search results to see the paid ads. If there are a large number of ads displayed, you’re on the right track. If there are no ads, or very few, you should pick other keywords and modify your site to focus on those keywords.
Using Adsense ads on your web site is one of the best ways to make money online. If you decide to give Adsense a try, remember that you must have good content first, good patience next, and then good traffic to your site. Don’t expect overnight results.
